As the Mind, So the Person
Mana eva manusyanam karanam bandha moksayoh. In sanskrit this mean “As the mind, so the person; bondage or liberation are in your own mind.”

Reflection is something that is often overlooked in the western culture because this would require one to not only take a break from their grind but to also look back at their previous selves, interactions with the world around them and the inner thoughts that ultimately shape their reality. They are not to blame as the city sidewalks are so narrow and walking in the street is so dangerous it becomes impossible to reflect on a path that is precisely paved toward a certain future. The reflection of this path is either depressing or boring leaving no room for interpretation.
What one has missed on this path is blades of grass or budding flowers that have sprang from the cracks. They missed beautiful graffiti on the old brick building that was an extension of an artists expression of their world. They missed the bright blue sky that provides the world with unending beauty. Even with the fruits of life all around them, they cling so tightly to the paved concrete in pursuit of worldly wonders. As I stated already, they are not to blame.
They have become so accustomed to this wide open prison that they find comfort in relentlessly putting one foot in front of the other. Cultural norms and expectations have molded their…
